A fire at Bistro Rollin restaurant on Fifth Avenue on Friday, July 23 caused limited damage but forced a one week closure of the restaurant for repairs. The restaurant was reopened Saturday, July 31.

Fire Lt. Chris McCann, who was the firefighter in charge because the fire chief was on vacation, said the fire started in the kitchen with the heat source close to “sawn wood” used for structural member or framing. The fire was confined to the floor of origin. He said the fire was accidental and no one was injured. No cost of damages was estimated.

The fire was reported at 11:10am with two trucks and three career firefighters responding from the Village of Pelham Fire Department, one block away. With some smoke visible from outside, employees and customers from adjoining businesses were evacuated along with Bistro Rollin personnel.

Firefighters checked the adjoining stores and the roof. Bistro Rollin’s paintings by Pelham artist Alexander Rutsch were removed and stored at a nearby storefront.

Additional manpower and equipment from other fire departments called to the scene were from Pelham Manor, New Rochelle, Eastchester, Greenville and Mt. Vernon with Larchmont and Town of Mamaroneck units in the fire headquarters. The fire was under control at 12:37pm. A total of 28 career firefighters and four volunteers were at the scene.
