Slideshow: Pelham Rowing Holds Doubles Erg Race; Boathouse Party - Saturday, April 25

“Drive to the Finish” is the Pelham Community Rowing Association’s final push to bring in the remaining $100,000 to fund a public boathouse for Westchester County. The boathouse, located on Glen Island in New Rochelle, will serve as a regional training center and focal point for high school and community rowing.
The PRCA is throwing a Boathouse Party as a fun and more affordable way to meet that goal. It will take place the evening of Saturday, April 25 beginning with intimate house parties along the Sound Shore. Later in the evening, party guests will come together at the Manor Club for the “After Party” including desserts, drinks and dancing. There will also be prizes such as vacation homes located in Tuscany, Stratton Mountain, Park City or Maine to name a few. Also for bid are sunset cruises on a yacht or fishing excursions as well as many other desirable prizes available at auction. PCRA youth rowers are selling raffles for an erg.
The PCRA has already raised $600,000 from governmental and foundation grants plus private support.
Construction has begun on what will be a 4,000 square foot single-story facility with boat storage, training and meeting rooms. A ramp and large floating dock will be constructed by the boathouse to provide easy access to “The Lagoon,” an inlet stretching to the back end of Orchard Beach in the Bronx that played host to the US Olympic Trials in 1964.
If the Boathouse Party ticket sales, auction and journal ads are successful the group will complete the new boathouse by summer so that the youth and adults of the community will enjoy for years to come.
“Whether you want to learn to row, encourage your kids to take up a sport they can enjoy through life or simply enjoy watching the boats from the banks of Manor Park this is your chance to show your support,” said Barbara Russillo, a chair of the April 25 event.
For more information, contact Brian Clark at 917-887-1844. Tickets for the Boathouse Party are $100 and Journal Ads run from $100 for a quarter page to $1,500 for a cover.
